The NBA Citizens Liberties Committee (NBA-CLC) under the Mazi Afam Osigwe led administration, has again secured the release of 4 minors today, the 21st day of November, 2024 at the trial of the #EndBadGovernance Protesters in Maidiguri, Borno State. The Legal Team led by the Chairman of the NBA-CLC, Nuhu Egya, Esq., alongside A. A. Askira, Daniel Kip, and a host of other lawyers contended successfully for the release of the minors, and the same was granted by the Honourable Court. The NBA Citizens Liberties Committee, with the aid of Hope Behind Bars Africa, also argued that the Application for Bail for other Defendants and Ruling has been adjourned to 3rd of December, 2024. Meanwhile, the hearing of the Charge has been adjourned to the 13th and 14th of January, 2025, for hearing before High Court 10, presided over by Hon. Justice M. A. Ali. Kip Burnout is a pervasive issue affecting the legal profession, compromising the well-being and performance of Lawyers. Chronic stress, long hours, and high expectations have created a perfect storm, leading to physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion. Most times this leads to health implications that affects longevity. Professional burnout in the legal profession is mostly unregulated and this comes with mental health implications, including anxiety, depression and substance abuse. Recent research in the UK by the mental health charity for the legal sector ‘LawCare’ provides robust evidence that the legal profession is stressed, tired, anxious, at high risk of burnout and that those working practices in the law that undermine mental health need to change.
