The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Uyo Branch Human Rights Committee, led by Vice Chairman and Chairman Human Rights Committee, Angela Mick-Akpabio, paid a courtesy visit to the Uyo Area Commander of the Nigerian Police.
During the meeting, Mick-Akpabio emphasized the need for collaboration and synergy among stakeholders in the administration of the criminal justice system in Akwa Ibom State. She also expressed the NBA's concerns regarding several issues, including:
- The harassment and detention of lawyers while discharging their professional duties
- Violations of citizens' fundamental rights by police officers
- Police handling of civil matters
- The conditions of detainees in police custody
The meeting concluded with a suggestion to create a feedback and crisis intervention team to facilitate seamless communication and improve collaboration between the NBA and the Police Command.
The courtesy visit underscored the importance of synergy between the legal profession and law enforcement in ensuring justice and the rule of law in Akwa Ibom State.
