It is with profound esteem and a deep sense of solidarity that I extend my warmest felicitations to the leadership and members of the African Bar Association on the occasion of this year's Annual General Conference. This gathering serves as a testament to the unity, resilience, and unwavering commitment of the African legal community.

The theme, "Foreign Aid and African Dependency: Re-Imagining Empowerment," is particularly salient, as it compels us to reexamine the paradigms that have shaped Africa's socio-economic development. It necessitates a critical evaluation of the structures of dependency that impede true progress and the advancement of sustainable systems rooted in indigenous capacity, innovation, and self-determination.

While foreign aid may be well-intentioned, it often perpetuates reliance rather than resilience. As African lawyers, policymakers, and thought leaders, we must advocate for legal frameworks and governance models that prioritize economic sovereignty, resource control, and institutional accountability.

Empowerment is contingent upon knowledge, policy consistency, and a justice system that fosters inclusion, equity, and integrity. I commend the African Bar Association for its tireless efforts in promoting these ideals and providing a platform for voices of reason, courage, and reform to converge.
